Jonathan Vanderkar has extensive experience in banking, secured lending, asset finance, structured finance and corporate law.
In Switzerland, Jonathan advises clients in relation to offshore vehicles and structures, and related transactional matters. He is able to work with colleagues in Appleby’s various offices to advise clients in relation to corporate law, investment funds, trust and private client matters, banking, asset finance and insurance in relation to Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Jersey and Mauritius. His clients include a large number of commercial lenders, private banks, investment banks, fund managers, trust companies and multinational corporations.
Jonathan joined Appleby’s Bermuda office in 2006, and opened the Zurich office in December 2008. Prior to joining Appleby, Jonathan worked as a Solicitor, specialising in finance at a number of leading London law firms.
Jonathan graduated from Warwick University (LLB Hons.), and then from the The College of Law, Guildford. He was admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales in November 1992 (now non-practising), and to the Bermuda Bar in 2008.
He is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales, as well as the Bar Council in Bermuda.
Jonathan regularly contributes to newspapers and industry publications on matters of offshore law and the use of offshore structures.

• Acting for various US Film Studios in connection with tax structured slate film financing deals.
• Representing underwriters in connection with capital market offerings by listed multinationals.
• Representing issuers on various securitisation transactions.
• Acting for banks and shipping companies in connection with the financing, delivery and registration of container and drilling vessels.
• Acting for various US lenders in connection with cross border secured asset based lending.
• Joint ventures, partnerships, mergers and restructurings.
• Yacht and Aircraft financing and registration.
• Establishment of various offshore private wealth structures.
